Prof. Michael Drummond
University of York
The National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) was set up in 1999 in the UK and in 2005 joined with the Health Development Agency (www.nice.org.uk). It produces guidance on public health, health technologies and clinical practice. The work of NICE receives high international attention and often raises controversies. These will be presented as an interesting example for the challenges every health care system faces nowadays.
Prof. Michael Drummond is Professor of Health Economics and former director of the Centre for Health Economics at the University of York. His particular field of interest is in the economic evaluation of health care treatments and programmes. He is the author of two major textbooks and more than 500 scientific papers. He has been President of the International Society of Technology Assessment in Health Care, and the International Society for Pharmacoeconomics and Outcomes Research. He is currently a member of the Guidelines Review Panels of the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) in the United Kingdom.
